This week my anxiety was through the roof! Hurricanes, flooding, wildfires, earthquakes, the 45’s administration…all scary and heartbreaking events occurring. Oh, and not to mention the fact I wasn’t able to score any Springsteen on Broadway tickets! Alright, maybe that part is small potatoes compared to what others are going through, but seeing as I’m a HUGE Bruce Springsteen fan, yeah, that one kinda stung. I’ve since gotten over it.
But if there is ever a time not to sweat the small stuff it’s these current days. There have definitely been times when I’ve gotten upset over stupid shit, but that’s nothing compared to the death and destruction Mother Nature has caused lately.
This is nothing new. Catastrophic events have been happening since the beginning of time. It just seems like lately it’s been happening all too often and so close together! Is the apocalypse upon us? No, I don’t think so.
It’s called climate change. Something scientists have been talking about, and warning us about for years. Al Gore gave me the heebie jeebies in An Inconvenient Truth, and then Conspiracy came along and helped me understand the main cause of it. However, people don’t want to hear it. Oh, Conspiracy is on Netflix by the way.
But talk about a big ol’ slap in the face with perspective. And on the daily.
We have no control over all the happenings in the world, and it can all feel so overwhelming. And honestly, it could be quite easy for me to stumble down a slippery slope filled with fear and sadness and lost hope and no faith, and why the fuck should I bother doing anything since this world is in a shit storm none of us are getting out of?
I honestly don’t want to go there. I refuse to walk down that line, and I’m trying HARD not to.
Maybe that’s why I gravitate towards older music like 70s and 80s music because times were so much simpler then. I was pretty young but I didn’t feel like doomsday was right around the corner. Besides, I didn’t even know what doomsday was!
Growing up I was a pretty goofy kid and come to think of it, I still sorta am, but sometimes I just find the silliest things hilarious. And right now, if I can snag a laugh in any moment, I’m going to take advantage of it.
So when my friend Marisol shared this photo, I wasn’t expecting to have the kind of reaction I had.
Uhh, let’s just say I nearly choked on my watermelon as I looked at it because I was laughing. I found this photo hilarious! Maybe because it was completely different than what I thought it was going to be about.
I just wasn’t expecting to see that otter in a beret looking so fierce. I want to thank the person, or persons, who created it because it made my day! It might have even made my week, but we’ll see if something else can top this one.
Team L’Otters for the win!
Thanks for reading and I hope you too, can find some bits of laughter in these trying times.
