On Tuesday I posted about reaching my first initial goal of receiving 75% of my fundraising goal for the American Cancer Society. I moved the bar up again and aimed to reached 90% so I can wear my new running singlet, and the goal was met within a matter of minutes of posting. On Wednesday morning, I woke up and checked my email, only to discover I not only reached my goal of 100%, I surpassed it!!!
I wish I could say it was me who did it, but it was all those people who contributed who deserve all the praise! They are the heroes and are the ones making the difference in someone’s life. I was the conduit, but they are the electricity. And I am filled with love and gratitude for everyone who contributed! Words simply can’t express what I’m feeling right now.
Especially on Wednesday, tears came in waves whenever I thought about what we did! Yes, we did it! Nobody can fight cancer alone and we helped someone. That, I do know. And I’m not the only one who is trying to help in some way.
There are a number of participants in the Chicago Marathon running as part of Team DetermiNation and they each have a story, a reason, and someone they are doing this for, and it could be many someones, such as myself.
On Friday morning, I met a friend for a run and I was so excited to wear my new singlet! It filled my heart with such pride.
And then it dawned on me…
In exactly one month from today, I will be lining up to run the streets of Chicago. Yes! On October 9th, I will be representing the American Cancer Society and running in honor of, and in remembrance of people who lost their battles with cancer.
I know it’s going to be an emotional race for me. It’s already been an emotional journey this whole year, but I’m going to cherish the next few weeks because time is going to fly by quickly.
So, from the bottom of my heart, I say THANK YOU to every single person who contributed to this cause. We made a difference. I know we did.
With love and gratitude,
Christina
